Hogtying Directions

A hogtie is administered by tying the arms and feet of a hog together, a technique often used during rodeos. A hogtie may be used to restrain a hog for sport or during a survival situation. A hog's legs can be tied together using rope and some simple roping techniques. Hogtying an animal can be extremely dangerous and should only be attempted by a person who is experienced in it.

Instructions

    • 1

      Corner the hog.

    • 2

Grab the hog by its hind legs and flip it over. A hog's spine makes it difficult for the hog to flip itself right-side-up.

    • 3

Kneel on the hog's neck and stomach. Create a slipknot by tying a simple knot with the end of the rope onto itself. Leave slack, creating a loop at the end of the rope that can be tightened by pulling it closed.

    • 4

Hold one of the front legs of the hog and slip the loop end of the rope over the leg near the hoof. Tighten the loop.

    • 5

Grasp the corresponding hind leg. If you looped the front right leg, grasp the hind left leg. Wrap the rope around the leg near the hoof several times. Loop the rope back under one of the wrappings and pull tight to secure the hind leg to the front leg. Grab the untied hind leg and repeat the wrapping technique.

    • 6

Hold the untied front leg and wrap the rope around it several times near the hoof. Secure all four hoofs together by tying several standard knots on the last leg. A standard knot on a hog's leg can be tied by looping the end of the rope under itself and tightening it.
