Visit the national and/or official association of your desired sport or competition. Go to the United States Tennis Association Web site, for example. Click on the "Register Now" link on the home page. Enter the tournament ID number, if you have it, or type in the tournament finder information, including approximate dates and locations, and click "Find It!" to locate an event in your area.

Visit general sporting event Web sites to access tournament information. Go to the Karate Tournament Central Web site, for instance, to find related events. Click the "State/Country" link on the home page. Select your state or country. Scroll through tournament listings to find dates, times and locations of championship events.

Check out local arenas or sporting complexes. Visit the Skate Frederick Web site, for example, which is an ice arena in the city of Frederick, Md. Click on the "Ice Hockey" link on the left side of the home page. Scroll through listings to find contact information for local or school clubs and view tournament listings.
