How to Prepare for Fantasy Football Bye Week

Drafting a fantasy football team can be challenging enough without the scheduling conflicts that arise. Because each NFL team is given one bye week in the schedule, you have to prepare for each one of your starters to have an off week and fill the hole in the most advantageous way possible. By knowing when the bye weeks are and having an appropriate backup plan, you can still field a competitive team without your number one guys.

Instructions

Write down the bye week of each player you draft as you draft him, so that when you are looking for his backup or other starters at his position, you can draft someone with another bye week.

    • 2

Keep a NFL schedule handy when you're drafting so you can see which teams are playing each other each week. By drafting players with favorable matchups for your bye week fill-ins, you can give yourself and advantage even when your star player has the week off.

Continue to pay attention to bye weeks throughout the season. For example, if a running back gets hurt and you have an opportunity to pick up his backup, make sure it doesn't put you in a bye week bind. If it poses a bye week problem but is too difficult an opportunity to pass up, make the necessary adjustments with your bench players.
