Running Back Outlook Week 16

Never thought I’d see the day David Montgomery (RB3) would be ranked within the top-three plays at his position. Yet, in many ways, it may be the most perfect send-off to the wacky fantasy year that was 2020.

The RB21 over the first 11 weeks of the season, Montgomery has averaged 26.5 ppg over the last four weeks, tying Derrick Henry for the highest average at the position. Over that span, he hasn’t scored fewer than 24.50 points in any game. Fresh off a career-high 32 attempts, Montgomery will travel to Duval to take on a Jaguars defense that has allowed the second-most fantasy points to RBs over the past month. No opposing starting RB has rushed for fewer than 120 yards against Jacksonville over their last three games.

Not saying Ezekiel Elliott couldn’t do it, but Tony Pollard (RB17) made some plays this past Sunday that I haven’t seen Zeke make all season long. In his first career start, Pollard touched the ball 18 times and finished as the position’s top-scorer for the week, totaling 31.2 points thanks to two TDs. Even more intriguing, he was targeted nine times in the passing game. If Elliott were to miss another week, Pollard would take on the appearance of a rock-solid RB2 against Philly. The Eagles have allowed at least one rushing TD to an opposing RB in every game since returning from their Week 9 bye.
