Fantasy Football Week 16 QB Rankings: Jalen Hurts, Baker Mayfield, Marcus Mariota Up

Quarterback Outlook Week 16

In the most ballsy move of Monday’s news dump, Doug Pederson has named Jalen Hurts (QB8) the Eagles starter for Week 16…shocker. It’s nice to see that 674 total yards, four touchdown passes and one turnover over the past two weeks buys the rookie another week. All jokes aside, Hurts is fantasy’s QB2 since taking over the helm in Philly, averaging 28.55 ppg. Hurts gets a Cowboys defense that has improved of late, although some of that growth could be written off to somewhat questionable competition.

Dallas has held three of their last four opponents at the QB position to 13.88 ppg or fewer. However, those three players were Alex Smith, Brandon Allen and Nick Mullens. They still allow the 12th-most points to QBs this year. Plus, they’ve been susceptible to mobile quarterbacks, allowing an average of 84 yards and one TD on the ground in matchups with Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray this season.

No, Baker Mayfield (QB9) is not John Elway, no matter how much Chris Collinsworth attempts to shove that narrative down your throat. However, the former No. 1 overall pick is clearly playing the best football of his career, averaging 324.6 passing yards and totaling 10 touchdowns and one interception over his last three games. Over that span, he’s averaged 26.82 ppg (QB4). Over the last four weeks, the Jets have allowed an average of 25.51 ppg to QBs (most in NFL).

Derek Carr wants to play next week, although the Raiders may ultimately opt for a healthy Marcus Mariota (QB16) instead. Mariota showed flashes Thursday night of why he was the No. 2 overall pick years ago. His dual-threat abilities, much like when Jalen Hurts was an unknown a few weeks ago, elevates his floor and makes him an intriguing play. With that said, the Miami Dolphins have held four of their last five opponents at the QB position to 12.16 points or fewer. The only player to exceed that number? Patrick Mahomes.
