1
Determine how many people you want to have in your fantasy basketball league. Picking the number of owners can have to do with whether you run your league yourself of if you use a website to manage stats. Remember that a larger league will limit the amount of stars on each team but will also require more strategy to win. Leagues with a less amount of teams will be less likely to lose owners due to boredom during the season.

2
Find people to serve as owners for your fantasy basketball league. Chances are that if you're making a fantasy basketball league, you probably know enough people to invite to your league. Ask friends, family members and co-workers who you know watch basketball to join your fantasy league. If you're struggling to fill the league, have those people invite players. You can also make your league public if you've created an online league.

3
Create the rules for your fantasy basketball league. This will include the number of players on a team, how teams will acquire points during the season, how free agents will be picked up and how trades will be handled. Ask the other owners for their input regarding the rules. This will ensure that everybody is enthusiastic regarding the league.

4
Set a time and place for your fantasy basketball draft. You want to make sure that every owner can make the draft. This way, nobody will be able to complain about their team. It's also a good idea to have the draft either in a fun public place, such as a bar. You can also have the draft at your home. If you do, though, have plenty of food and beverages available.

5
Find a way to calculate the stats of the different teams in the league. This will automatically be done for you if you have created an online fantasy league. If you're running the league on your own, though, use a spreadsheet program to input the stats. Using this spreadsheet program will allow you to easily calculate points, blocks, assists and other statistics.

6
Create a playoff system for your fantasy basketball league. Most people have the playoffs of their fantasy basketball league during the final weeks of the regular season so that all of the players in the league will still be active. You'll also need to determine how many teams to have in the playoffs. For an eight team league, you could have four teams face off in the playoffs to determine the champion.
