How to Do an Office NASCAR Pool

1
Research your company's policy toward office pools. Though companies generally don't ban pools altogether, some frown upon using the company's time and resources to run the pool. If your company forbids conducting a pool during office time, participants should organize the pool outside of work and should use personal rather than corporate email addresses to send pool-related messages.

2
Gauge employee interest by holding a meeting or sending out surveys or emails. Determine how many people want to be involved in the pool and for how long. If there is a strong response, you can consider planning a long-term pool. If few people wish to be involved, you may consider running a pool for only one NASCAR event.

3
Decide on a way to conduct your pool. If you are scoring a pool based only on one race, it will be simple enough to use pencil and paper to keep score. If your pool is ongoing, pencil and paper may be too labor intensive and prone to error -- in this case, you can set up a pool on a website such as Fun Office Pools or Sports Pool. Fun Office Pools is a free site that offers automatic scoring and updating, automatic reminders for participants and private forums. NASCAR Sports Pool is a year-long pool that allows you to select a team of six to 10 drivers and keeps score based on the earnings of NASCAR drivers.

4
Determine who wins the pool. With a points system, players earn points by correctly predicting the outcome of a race, and the person with the most points at the end of a pool wins. In an elimination pool, players stay in the pool until they make an inaccurate prediction, and the last person remaining wins. In a single choice pool, the participants who correctly predict the outcome of a single race are the winners.

5
If you are playing for cash -- and note that to do so is illegal in some states -- collect money before the pool begins and keep track of who has paid and who hasn't. This will prevent you from coming up short of money at the end of the pool.
-
6
Watch the NASCAR races and carefully keep track of the outcomes, unless you are using a web program that automatically updates the results. Calculate the points, add them to the participants' scores and report the results to the participants.
