How to Plan Sports Events for Kids

Many kids flock to sports. They love participating in sports as well as watching their professional heroes. It's a good idea to have a family afternoon or a school outing combined with a sporting event. But there's a lot that goes into selecting an event for kids. It could often be hectic if you wait until the last minute. Proper planning will make for an enjoyable day out.

Instructions

Decide what type of event you want. You could go to a spectator event like a professional game. Or you could have a participation event like going to batting cages or mini-golf.

    • 2

Check availability. That includes getting tickets or making sure the facility is free at that particular time. An ice skating rink, for example, could be closed for private lessons or have a competition going on.

    • 3

Have a backup plan. What happens if a Major League Baseball game gets rained out? You could have a carload of unhappy children. Check beforehand to see if there are nearby batting cages or museums that would be perfect for a rainy day.

Go to sports-related museums. There are dozens of museums across the country which celebrate sports. Most are kid-friendly and have interactive exhibits. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y., for example, has a Sandlot Kids' Clubhouse area with youth activities.
