How to Become a Baseball Fan

Baseball is America's pastime. If you're finding yourself left out of conversations at work or trying to attract a baseball loving fan, try becoming a baseball fan yourself. With some nights at the ballpark and a little reading, you'll find a greater appreciation for the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Attend baseball games. Try local MLB, minor league or college baseball games to watch. Attending live games allows you to experience the excitement of other fans and to learn from those around you. Many ballparks have areas that explain the history of the team and its famous players.

    • 2

Pick a team. To truly be a baseball fan, you need to have a favorite team which you watch and follow. Many people root for a local team, which allows you to attend games and generally get some televised games as well, but you can also choose a team which has a player you like or another connection for you.

    • 3

Read individual player narratives which can include how they became a baseball player, stories about their family or individual accomplishments. Finding one or more players which you identify with or admire can give you a greater appreciation for the game.

    • 4

Learn the rules of baseball and what the statistics mean. While many fans have baseball statistics memorized, having a working knowledge of what each means will help you recognize who the good players are and what it takes to reach each milestone.

    • 5

Ask friends or family members who are already baseball fans to help you learn about the game. These individuals can attend games with you, explain the rules and talk with you about other aspects of the game. You can also gain a great deal of knowledge about team rivalries, past players and the history of the game and team this way.

    • 6

Search online for baseball forums. You can learn a lot about baseball strategy and the players by reading the comments and arguments of other fans. You'll also be exposed to the jargon and slang terms that baseball fans use.

    • 7

Join a baseball team. Joining a team will help you learn about the rules of the game and how to play. You may also learn some of the subtleties of the game. Most areas have community leagues that you can join, or consider attending a baseball fantasy camp.
