1
Clean the hard hat and remove any decals or stickers on it. Use the sandpaper to remove any stickers that don’t peel away. Lightly sand the entire surface.
-
2
Move to a ventilated area and cover the entire helmet with yellow spray paint. Don’t cover the inside at this time. Wait for this layer to dry before you continue; the length of time you have to wait for the paint to dry should be printed on the can.
-
3
Cut a piece of painter’s tape so that it will fit across the top of the helmet. Make the tape longer than necessary to start. Place one end of the tape on the back side of the helmet with the edge of the tape sitting in the area between the brim and the hat. Secure the tape across the top of the helmet and cut it so that the other end will rest between the brim and the hat on the front side. You can use another piece of tape to double it up, if you are worried about the black paint bleeding through.
-
4
Cover the helmet with the black paint. You can also paint the inside, if you desire.
-
5
Remove the painter’s tape as soon as you are done painting. If you leave it on, the paint can bleed through to the yellow area. Wait for the black paint to dry before you continue.
-
6
Place the Steelers logo sticker on the right side of the hat. The left side is left blank, just like the real Steelers helmet.
