How to Know What Size Fitted Cap to Wear

Some people say that if you're buying an adjustable, fitted cap, you don't need to measure your head. However, it's still a good idea, particularly if you intend to buy a cap online and can't try it on first. You don't want to run the risk of it being too tight and leaving a red band around your forehead or being too loose and flying off with a strong gust of wind. Even if you are at a store and have the chance to try fitted caps on, it's always best to know your exact size, ask for that and then judge how the cap feels, as such a process reduces the margin of error.

Wrap a tape measure around your head, 1 inch above your eyebrows. Make sure that the tape measure is neither too tight or too loose around your head. Record the circumference of your head on a piece of paper.

Look up your possible hat size based on the following chart. If your measurement is 20 1/2 inches to 21 5/8 inches, your hat size is a small or ranges from 6 1/2 to 6 7/8. If your measurement was 22 inches to 22 3/8 inches, your hat size is a medium or ranges from size 7 to 7 1/8. If your measurement is 22 3/4 inches to 23 1/8 inches your cap size is a large or ranges from size 7 1/2 to 8. If your measurement is larger than 23 1/8 inches your size is extra large.

Try on several sizes in your designated size range. Decide if you like your hat to be on the snugger or looser size. Pick a size the fits your head securely but is not uncomfortable. Make note of the size. The size you like best not only fits your head but also your personal preferences.
