How to Make a Football Defense Sign

Sketch out the design of your sign. The most familiar defense sign is the letter "D" and a cutout of a picket fence. Trace the "D" out with a pencil, in case you make mistakes. For the fence, you can sketch this out with a yardstick.

Figure the dimensions of your sign. It needs to be compact enough to be allowed into the stadium, but large enough to be seen from the field. Most organizations will not allow a sign more than six feet wide or long into the stadium. The dimensions of four feet wide and long should be sufficient.

Draw the designs out on a piece of poster board. Thicker poster board, like trifold board, will not be allowed in most games, but you can use the thinner types.

Cut the signs out with scissors or, if necessary, a hobby knife.

Paint the sign and attach other ornamentations. Using bold colors here will help your sign get noticed.
