How to Stay Warm at a Football Tailgate

Attending a football tailgate is an excellent way to prepare for a game. Depending on when your tailgate is, though, the weather can be quite chilly. You don't want to be freezing cold when you head into the game. Here is how to stay warm at a football tailgate.

Bring a canopy to your football tailgate to shield you from any precipitation. This will also help you to stay warm if it is a particularly windy day. You may even want to place tarp on the sides of your canopy in order to keep the area warmer. This is an especially good idea if you have a portable heater or if you want to grill. Of course, if you do grill, you'll want to be sure to have a hole in the top of your canopy to let the smoke out.

Wear plenty of layers to your football tailgate. This is the easiest way for you to stay warm at your football tailgate. Remember that it's better to be warm and take a jacket or sweatshirt off than to be too cold and not be able to do anything about. Bring blankets, extra sweatshirts and even extra socks. The socks are especially important if there is going to be rain or snow during your football tailgate.

Drink warm beverages during your football tailgate. Obviously, beer and tailgating go together like peanut butter and jelly. Nevertheless, alcoholic drinks will not keep you warm regardless of how you may feel at the time you're drinking them. Coffee and hot chocolate are two great drinks to enjoy at a tailgate and will keep you warm while you're partying outside of the stadium.

Bring at least one grill and use it throughout the duration of your football tailgate. A grill lets off quite a lot of heat and can be a makeshift fire for you and your tailgate guests to huddle around during a cold football tailgate. The more grills, the warmer your tailgate will be. In order to keep warm, you should fire up your grill(s) immediately upon beginning your football tailgate.

Eat spicy foods during your football tailgate. Buffalo wings, for example, are excellent for tailgates and can be quite tasty. They can also make you feel very warm in a hurry. You could also make a soup that has a kick to it.

Move around during your football tailgate. This is as simple as it sounds. If you're moving around, your body will not cool down as quickly. Toss a football around or simply stay on your feet and walk around during your tailgate in order to keep warm.
