How to Calculate Wins, Losses & Tie Scores

Keeping track of your favorite team's record of wins, losses and ties is a job worthy of a die-hard fan. Most newspapers and sports websites now give you easy access to such material, if you need assistance or just a quick check of your own statistics. To complete the day-to-day aspects of the project, keep up with their statistics to verify your the accuracy of your information.

      Make a basic spreadsheet in a sketchbook. Create three columns, one each for wins, losses and ties. Draw straight lines below, above and beside each section.

      Tally each game under one of the headings. Enter a win, loss or tie into each column. Sports like hockey award points based on records (2 points for a win, 0 for a loss and 1 for a tie or overtime loss) which you could also include, but most professional sports do not use a separate point system.

      Total the columns at the bottom. Add each row going vertical to get a total for each stat. Make a notation at the bottom that designates total wins, losses and ties.

      Add the individual totals together and divide by the total number of games to calculate win, loss and tie percentages.
