1
Check the weight of the ATV. This is found in the user manual, or on the serial number plate on the engine block. Have a housing inspector or contracting professional check the rafters and floors of the loft or attic to make sure they can support the weight of the ATV.
-
2
Drain the fuel tank completely and leave the cap off for at least one day. Let the fumes evaporate out of the tanks, thus preventing expansion in the tank in a hot storage area such as a loft or attic. Place the cap back on. Pull the wire plug off the top of the spark plugs --typically found along the side of the engine block.
-
3
Place a ramp for the ATV wheels leading up to the attic or loft. Attach a winch to a support beam or structurally sound bar in the attic or loft and run the winch cable down to the nose of the ATV. Clip the winch cable hook to the winch loop on the front of the ATV.
-
4
Guide the ATV up the ramp, using the winch as the hauling power. Make sure the ATV is set in neutral prior to moving it up the ramp via the winch. Once in the loft or attic, push it to the desired location, set the emergency brake and leave it in first gear.
-
5
Cover the ATV in a cotton sheet or canvas tarp to prevent dust buildup on the rig during storage.
