How to Use a Horton Bow Press

A bow press is a tool designed for compound bows and compound crossbows, it places tension on the limbs to squeeze them together so the bowstring can be removed. Most bow presses are rather large pieces of equipment that cannot be easily carried into the field while hunting. The Horton Bowmaster portable bow press allows you to carry a crossbow bow press with you into the field.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the cable loops on the Horton Bowmaster portable bow press to the posts that the cable pulleys mount to.

    • 2

Set the rubber pad of the bow press in the center of your bows riser.

    • 3

Start screwing the center rod down through the bow press' pulley system. This will draw the limbs together. Make sure to slowly twist the center rod and watch for any slipping of the bow press cables or the center rod, if you see any slipping, stop and reattach the bow press and start again..

    • 4

Make any adjustments or change the bow string when bow press has created sufficient slack in the bowstring to make the needed repairs.

    • 5

Release the tension of the bow press on the limbs, slowly by unscrewing it after the repairs are complete. Detach the bow press cables and test your repairs or adjustments.
