1
Measure the length of your forearm, then measure the diameter at the wrist, middle, and near the elbow.
-
2
Use your measurements to draw a pattern for your arm guard on paper. The arm guard does not need to go all the way to your elbow or all the way around your forearm and must primarily cover the inside of your forearm. The arm guard needs to be symmetrical. Cut out the pattern and hold it up to your arm to be sure that it is the proper size for you and seems like it will be comfortable.
-
3
Trace your pattern on a piece of heavy leather and cut it out.
-
4
Mark several spots on the long edge of the leather, where the guard will wrap around your arm, for grommets. Place each grommet about 1/2 inch from the edge. The grommets on one edge should match up exactly with those on the opposite edge. You need about six grommets, though this will vary depending on the size of your arm guard.
-
5
Drill a small hole through the leather at each place you marked.
-
6
Insert a grommet into each hole according to the instructions in your kit. There are many different ways to insert grommets, so read the instructions carefully. The grommets should end up very flat and secure in the leather.
-
7
Lace the arm guard with elastic the same way that you would a shoe. Tie the ends in a secure knot and cut off any excess elastic. The guard should be snug but not uncomfortable.
