How to Buy a Badminton Racquet

A badminton racquet should be bought from a reputable sports store that specializes in racquet sports. Before buying a racquet, an individual should try a number of racquets to rate the comfort level of each and see which one works best for him.
  1. Heads

    • According to Rackets.com, when buying a badminton racquet, a person should select one of the two available head types: square and oval. Oval is the traditional shape with a small sweet spot, while square-shaped racquets provide a larger sweet spot. The sweet spot is the place on the racquet where the player barely feels the impact of the shuttlecock when struck.

    Weight

    • Weight is a consideration when buying a badminton racquet. Four weights are available according to Badminton Information. These weights range from the heaviest (1U) to the lightest (4U). These weights commonly range from 83 grams to 100 grams.

    Grip

    • The grip size of a racquet is another important consideration when purchasing a racquet. Manufacturers use different measurement ratings with each player preferring a different-sized grip. Grip sizes are measured differently by manufacturers--some use G2 as the largest grip size and G5 the smallest, while others simply use small-to-large sizing.
