Specs for the 2011 Miken Freak DST
-
Composition
-
The Freak DST is made of 100 percent composite material using fibers originally designed for aerospace use. Miken Sports claims that this particular fiber makes its bats durable and helps in performance. Known as the “R900” carbon fiber, it has better performance and strength when compared to other carbon fibers on the market. R900 has about 40 percent higher elongation and a tensile strength that’s about 38.8 percent higher than other carbon fibers.
Dimensions and Qualifications
-
Both models follow the standard length of 34 inches, but with varying weights: 26, 27, 28 and 30 ounces. Its barrel diameter comes at 2.25 inches, while its barrel length comes at 14.5 inches. Both bats are also approved by several organizations, such as Amateur Association of America (ASA), United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA), and the Independent Softball Association (ISA).
Features
-
The DST Balance has a balanced weight distribution designed to reach the highest possible bat speed, while the Maxload has a heavier end-load design for longer ball distances. Both bats come with DuraShell Technology, another composite material that serves as the bat’s lining, or shell. Another feature, known as “Advance InnerFlex Technology,” allows the bat to provide precise handle flex and rebound for better power and energy distribution.
Price
-
As of September 2011, both Miken Freak DST models range around $210 to $300, with some stores offering shaved and rolled models. Shaved and rolled models undergo a series of machining to make the bats lighter and better at making the ball “bounce,” allowing the player to make the softball travel farther, even with the same amount of power. As of September 2011, shaved and rolled models are about $360.
