1
Rub petroleum jelly or glove oil over the entire length of the new rawhide lacing before you start. This prepares the lacing for this project.
-
2
Pull out the broken areas of lacing with bottle-nose pliers. Examine the lacing path as you remove the old. Write it down on a scrap paper with pencil if necessary.
-
3
Tie a simple knot on the end of the replacement rawhide lacing. Pull the knot as tight as you can. Clip the opposite end of the lacing with scissors to make a narrow end for easier lacing. Place a lacing needle cap on the clipped end of the rawhide lace. This helps thread the lace through the holes.
-
4
Thread the rawhide, starting with the side with the lacing needle cap, through one of the holes at the bottom of the glove. Follow the exact path of the original lacing. Pull the lacing with the pliers as tight as you want. Over time the lacing will loosen.
-
5
Pull the lace through holes with a lace needle if needed. This helps around the fingers where it can be tight. Insert the lace needle into the hole, and then thread the lace into the opening of the lace needle. Pull the lace needle through the hole, pulling the lace as well.
-
6
Tie a firm square not at the end of the lacing. Be sure it is snug against the glove and cut off excess rawhide lacing with scissors.
