How to Make Your Own Batting Stick
Those wooden sticks you see baseball players practicing with before a game are batting sticks, or tools that help a player improve batting technique. Hitting sticks allow players to practice their swing more times in a session due to the stick's lightweight nature, and also help improve a player's hand-eye coordination as the stick is much skinner than a regular baseball bat. Rather than spending the money on a commercial hitting stick, try making your own out of an old broom and some tape.
Things You'll Need
- Old broom
- Saw

Instructions

1
Saw off the handle from a broom. Place the broomstick next to the bat you normally use and make marks on the stick with a marker for cutting the stick to match the bat length.
-
2
Saw the marked places on the broomstick. Discard the end pieces, use them as kindling, or incorporate them into craft projects, if desired.
-
3
Sand the ends of the stick to get rid of rough places with sandpaper.
-
4
Cover the area of the stick you will grip with masking tape, duct tape, electrical tape or baseball bat tape.
