Hitting a Baseball
-
1
Use the right baseball bat. The weight, size and material of the bat all affect your swing and how far you hit the ball. Lighter weight allows you to get more speed behind your swing.
-
2
Grip the handle of the bat with your fingers. Rotate your fingers so the knuckles on each hand are aligned with each other. Do not squeeze the bat. Hold the bat lightly but securely.
-
3
Get in the proper hitting stance. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent and your weight evenly distributed between both feet.
-
4
Raise your hands so that the top hand on the bat is just above and in front of your rear shoulder. The knob of the bat should be pointing towards the plate. Turn your head towards the pitcher, looking over your front shoulder.
-
5
Keep your eye on the ball. Swing the bat in the same path as the pitched baseball. Keep your bat on the same plane as the ball for as long as possible to increase your chances of accelerating the ball. Greater speed and power behind your swing will allow you to hit the ball farther.
Hitting a Golf Ball
-
6
Use the right golf club. The type of club, material, length and weight all affect the way you play. Use a long driver with a lighter weight to get more speed power in your backswing and follow through. This will allow you to hit the ball farther.
-
7
Grip the golf club firmly without squeezing it. There are several ways to grip a golf club properly: overlap your right pinky finger with your left index finger, interlock your right pinky finger with your left index finger, or grip the club with all 10 fingers without overlapping or interlocking. Choose the grip that's most comfortable for you.
-
8
Get in the correct hitting stance. Correct posture is required to make a good swing. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart. Keep your back straight and align your shoulders, hips, knees and feet with the ball.
-
9
Raise the golf club, keeping your backswing slow and deliberate. Keep your front arm straight while allowing your back arm to bend at a 90-degree angle. Pivot your body, leading with your hips as you begin your down swing. The club will pick up speed close to the hitting zone, moving fastest on impact with the ball.
-
10
Follow through with your swing, bringing the club all the way around until the head is behind you. Your body should be facing the target. Finish with most of your weight shifted to your front leg, with your back foot slightly off the ground.
