      Choose the material of your bat. There are many aluminum alloys available, each offering different levels of performance and durability. Composite bats are made of graphite fiberglass and resin. They have a different feel and sound then other materials. A hybrid bat combines composite bats with aluminum alloy bats.

      Select the appropriate barrel size. Though some leagues use a 2 3/4 inch barrel, most little league players should use a bat with a 2 1/4 inch barrel. Players in high school and college are limited to a 2 5/8 inch barrel.

      Try different lengths of bat find a good balance of length and weight. Longer bats provide a better reach for you but are heavier and may slow you down. Popular bat lengths by age: 5 to 7 - 24 to 26 inch; 8 and 9 - 26 to 28 inch; 10 - 28 to 29 inch; 11 to 12 - 30 to 31 inch; 13 to 14 - 31 to 32 inch; 15 to 16 - 32 to 33 inch.
