What Are Baseball Fantasy Camps?
-
Playing
-
While previous experience helps, you can be a novice and still participate in playing the game. Players are separated by skill and assigned to teams near the beginning of camp. At least one Major League legend from the host team coaches each team. This baseball great interacts with his team and teaches campers baseball technique. Teams play games throughout the camp. Tournaments often take place, with awards handed out to the best teams.
Interaction
-
In addition to interacting on the baseball field, campers and the former professional players spend a lot of time together. This is one of the main attractions to a fantasy camp -- getting to hang out with the players you grew up admiring. Special events, dinners and receptions give attendees many opportunities to talk baseball with the legends. Typically a list of legends who will be present is provided, but occasionally special guests arrive to add excitement to the camp.
Memorabilia
-
While the memories created during the fantasy camp are cherished, campers often return home with a wealth of memorabilia and personalized gifts. Fantasy camp attendees often get a personalized uniform. Pictures are taken during games and throughout camp and are available for campers to take home. The legends at camp are more than willing to autograph your items. Depending on the camp, other giveaways, including personal baseball cards and DVDs, will be handed out during the event.
Registration
-
Because of the understandable popularity of these events, space is limited and registration can be difficult. Often, a minimum age of 25 years is required for all participants. Costs will vary depending on the camp or package selected, but generally, as of 2011, fantasy camps costs about $4,000. This includes all camp festivities, meals, hotel and transportation around the camp.
