Write down some questions to ask. Are any fees involved in joining the team? Is playing time equal among the players? Are tryouts required? At what skill level are members expected to play? What is the coach's strategy for choosing final team members? How long does the season last? Is any equipment purchase required? How far and how often does the team travel? You may find that you have to do a considerable amount of calling or emailing to get your questions answered.

Show up on time for tryouts and each practice, if you make the cut, especially the first practice. The first practice is often when the coach takes everyone through introductions and answers questions. Take note that most, but not every, team holds tryouts. Tryouts, the intensity of the tryouts and what strategy the coach uses for picking the final team members varies from team to team. Certainly, skill level also plays a big part in making the cut if there are tryouts.
