How to Form a Baseball Tournament Team

Baseball is one of America's favorite pastimes. Playing recreational baseball for an organized tournament team is a great way to get your friends together and make new ones. Forming a sports team with your friends can be a fun and exciting activity. Whether you are forming your baseball team for a recreational or more advanced league, the process for creating the team is the same.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the number of players you will need. A baseball team consists of nine players, so it might be beneficial to recruit at least 12 players to allow for substitutions, absences or injuries.

    • 2

Recruit your teammates. Call your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, old high school friends or anyone who would make a good addition to your team.

    • 3

Hold tryouts for the different baseball positions. Because you are forming a team that will be playing in a tournament, this requires a certain amount of hard work and dedication from your players. You need to count on them and make sure they will be physically fit enough to play an entire tournament.

    • 4

Create a preliminary list of the available players and make cuts if necessary. Also, determine which position each player will play (you don't want to be stuck with seven pitchers and only two infielders).

    • 5

Create your final roster of nine starters. You need nine players on the field at all times to play in a baseball tournament or you likely will have to forfeit the game. Make sure that you have at least three substitutes, including a backup pitcher.

    • 6
Obtain the baseball gear your team will need.

Purchase equipment for your team. You can purchase new equipment from a sporting goods store, or check online sources for used equipment that might cost less.

    • 7

Connect and organize your baseball team with other teams. Check with your local parks and recreation department or YMCA, or consider an online social networking site -- such as Sportsvite -- that connects teams and players for various sports in different cities.

    • 8

Determine your desired level of play. Decide whether you want to join a recreational or a more competitive, advanced league. Team and individual fees will vary depending on which type of tournament baseball league you join.

    • 9

Begin practicing with your new baseball team to create team unity. You want to develop some compatibility among your team members and figure out everyone's strengths and weaknesses.
