How to Wet & Form a Baseball Hat

Wearing a baseball cap displays your pride in a particular team. Breaking in a new cap so it looks like it was custom-made for your head can take months of wear. New caps are often stiff, boxy and have a crown which sits high on your head. Speeding up the process of having the cap take the shape of your noggin can be accomplished in a few hours, if you don't mind wearing a wet hat.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a cotton or wool baseball cap that fits loosely on your head. Check the manufacturers tag inside the cap to determine if it is cotton or wool. Only caps made from these materials will form properly with this method.

    • 2

Hold the cap upside-down in your sink. Allowing warm water to fill, and run through, the bowl of the hat. Focus on getting the crown very wet. Run the water through the hat for two minutes. Avoid getting the brim wet.

    • 3

Empty the water out of the cap, and gently shake off any excess water. Place the wet hat on your head. Have a towel ready to wipe away water dripping from the hat. Wear the cap until it is completely dry. The hat will shrink to fit the form of your head. If you feel the hat is shrinking too much, tug at it a little, stretching the area that feels too snug.

The cap will take a few hours to dry. Speed up the process by wearing it outside on a warm day or using a blow-dryer set on the warm setting.
