How to Fix a Basketball Backboard

If you have a basketball backboard affixed either on a pole or a wall outside, it may become damaged over time. You can fix a backboard that has become chipped or cracked without too much fuss. Doing this will stop chips from becoming bigger, and potentially turning into major splits. With a few simple tools and some time, you will be able to fix your basketball backboard, and use it for many years.

      Remove the backboard from the wall or from the pole it hangs on by removing the bolts or screws.

      Lay the backboard on a work desk or a dry piece of ground. Cut around the chip or the crack with the box cutter, removing any damaged areas. Sand the inside of the backboard.

      Fill the gap with epoxy. Sand it down so that it does not jut out from the front of the backboard.

      Turn the backboard over and place duct tape on the back to keep the epoxy secure. This will help give it structural strength.

      Tighten up the nuts where the hoop meets the backboard and reattach it to the pole or wall.
