How to Balance a Huffy Basketball Hoop

Huffy Sports creates both in-ground and portable basketball systems. Nearly 80 percent of today's basketball systems purchased today are portable systems, according to Huffy. The portable systems have wheels and can be taken to a desired location. The bases are filled with water or sand for stability. These basketball systems can be unbalanced and need to be leveled. Balancing the Huffy basketball hoop may require the use of shims or additional sandbags.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the basketball system on a flat surface. Many portable hoops are located on driveways that may be angled and cause the basketball hoop to either tilt forward, sideways or backward, depending on the basketball hoop's positioning.

    • 2

Use a level to verify that the hoop has been attached properly. A hoop that has been installed crooked will create the feeling that the hoop is unbalanced. Adjust the hoop from the rear of the backboard, using wrenches. Adjust the hoop until it is level.

    • 3

Raise the basketball hoop up to its highest point. This will make the system the most unstable. Examine which way the system is leaning toward. Examine all the bolts on the side the system if it tilts to one side or another.

    • 4

Add wooden shims underneath the hoop it the hoop is tilting forward. The shims can be anything that can be slid under the hoop to keep the system from tilting forward. The shims should not extend past the base of the system for safety. Having two or three solid shims underneath the system should be enough to stabilize and level the system.

    • 5

Place additional weight on the base, using sandbags. The sandbags should be placed opposite the direction of the tilt. For example, if the hoop tilts forward, place the sandbags on the back portion of the base.
