1
Dig a square hole approximately two feet by two feet after determining where you want to place your basketball hoop. Make sure the hole is 2 feet deep. Most basketball kits include poles that are long enough to ensure that your basketball hoop will still reach the regulation size of 10 feet once the pole is placed.
-
2
Mark the basketball pole 18 inches from the bottom using a marker and measuring tape.
-
3
Mix the 850 pounds of concrete you have in a wheelbarrow. Doing so will ensure that you can more easily maneuver the concrete once mixed. Bags of concrete generally have easy-to-follow instructions on the back of them.
-
4
Fill the hole completely with cement and spread it to make sure it is even. Insert the basketball pole to the line you marked 18 inches from the bottom. After using your level to make sure the pole is straight, fill it with concrete to ensure stability. Let the concrete stand for 48 hours.
-
5
Attach the basketball hoop to the backboard using the appropriate screws. Most basketball kits include backboards with drilled holes and a rim with the appropriate tools for assembly.
-
6
Attach the net to the basketball hoop, threading the widest loops at the top of the net through the loops welded onto the rim.
-
7
Attach the basketball hoop to the basketball pole after allowing the pole to sit in concrete for 48 hours. Much like the backboard and the rim, the basketball pole should be installation-ready with drilled holes.
