How to Restring a Basketball Hoop

Whether a basketball hoop is indoors or outside, at some point the net is going to need to be replaced. Basketball nets that are used heavily wear down more quickly, but particularly if the net is exposed to the elements outside, it will deteriorate regardless of use. The net, usually made of nylon, helps ensure the ball does not roll too far away after a made shot, so restringing it when it no longer serves its intended purpose is necessary.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the ladder underneath the hoop and climb up so you can easily reach the net.

    • 2

Cut the old net off the hoop with a pair of scissors.

    • 3

Hold the new net so the wide end of it faces upward. Place each loop of the net onto one of the metal loops of the basketball hoop. Continue until all loops of the net are connected to the metal loops on the hoop.

    • 4

Pull the net downward once you have attached it. This will ensure none of the nylon loops fall off and also reduce the chance of the basketball getting stuck in the net.
