1
Place the step ladder directly under the basketball hoop. Be sure the ladder is placed on a level surface and its legs are completely extended.
-
2
Climb the ladder, bringing the wrench or ratchet with you, to the basketball hoop. Have a helper hold the ladder for extra safety and stability.
-
3
Loosen and remove each bolt from the back of the basketball hoop and backboard or wall. Place the mounting bolts on the top step of the step ladder. Most basketball hoops are held in place by four bolts in a square pattern.
-
4
Remove the basketball hoop from the backboard or wall, taking care not to drop it on the helper or other people below.
-
5
Climb down the ladder and set down the old hoop or hand it down to your helper. Take the new hoop back up the ladder or have your helper hand it up to you.
-
6
Mount the new basketball hoop to the backboard or wall using the same mounting bolts that were removed from the old hoop. Be sure the bolts are tight and that the new hoop is mounted upright and level.
-
7
Climb back down the step ladder and remove it from the basketball court. The new basketball hoop is now ready to be used.
