How to Hook Up a Basketball Net

A basketball net is a mesh or nylon fiber that is designed with many open diamond shapes. The net has a large opening at the top and a smaller opening at the bottom. The basketball net controls the way the ball drops, and protects you and others from the ball ricocheting and hitting you after a ball is shot into the rim. You can purchase a basketball net from any sporting goods store.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the basketball net on a flat surface. Notice which open end is the largest. You should attach the largest open end to the basketball rim.

    • 2

Move your ladder to an area in front of the basketball rim so that you can hook the basketball net to the rim without falling.

    • 3

Climb the ladder, holding the larger open end of the net in your hand. Locate the small spiral pieces of iron positioned around the bottom of the rim.

    • 4

Grab one of the loops on the larger open end of the basketball net with both index fingers and thumbs. Stretch the loop into a straight line by holding the loop with the left index finger and thumb. Move the right index finger and thumb holding the same loop to the right and away from the left index finger and thumb.

    • 5

Pull the stretched loop over the two highest peak points of one of the spiral pieces of iron on the basketball rim. Loosen the stretched loop while still holding the loop with both fingers and thumbs by pushing the index fingers and thumbs on both hands together. Locate the lowest peak of the spiral piece of iron, which dips down instead of up, located between the two highest peaks of the same spiral piece of iron. Position the loosened loop under the lowest peak.

    • 6

Attach the center of the loop to the bottom of the two highest peaks of the spiral piece of iron by pulling both sides of the loop up with both fingers and thumbs. Locate the two low peaks of the same spiral piece, one on each side of the high peaks.

    • 7

Stretch both sides of the remaining loop not attached to the highest peaks with your index fingers and thumbs. Push one side of the loop into one of the low peaks of the same spiral piece with your finger that once held the loop. Push the other side of the loose loop, held by your other finger and thumb, into the other low peak on the same spiral iron piece using the same method.

    • 8

Attach the remaining net loops to the basketball rim by repeating the same process on all remaining spiral iron pieces around the basketball rim. Use a different net loop for each spiral piece.
