How to Put on a Chain Net for Basketball

Countless youths and adults alike play basketball every day across the globe, and many of these games take place outside. At neighborhood and community center basketball courts, basketball nets are often made of chain instead of the traditional rope netting. The benefits of chain nets are that they do not rip and cannot be destroyed by vandalism. If you have an outdoor basketball hoop, you may consider hanging a chain to the rim next time your net needs to be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the package that contains the chain net and remove it. It will likely contain the hardware necessary for mounting it to the rim. In most cases, the hardware consists of eight to 12 S-hooks.

    • 2

Read the instruction manual to determine how the S-hooks attach to the chain.

    • 3

Insert one end of an S-hook into the top end of the net where it will attach to the rim. Loop the S-hook into the last link of chain and pinch it shut with a pair of pliers. This will ensure the chain net does not fall off the S-hook. Repeat this step until all the S-hooks are evenly distributed around the circumference of the top side of the net.

    • 4

Set up a ladder next to the basketball post, directly under the rim.

    • 5

Climb the ladder and hook the end of one S-hook into one hook on the rim. Continue hooking the S-hooks onto the rim until the net is attached all the way around. Pinch the S-hooks shut using the pliers.
