1
Practice your game. The McDonald's All American High School Basketball Game is for the best players in the whole of America, even if you have the talent, you have to work hard to get into this prestigious list of players.
-
2
Have an outstanding junior year, as is this is a major factor in the selection process and the reason that many players make the list.
-
3
Play for your high school senior team. This is minimum requirement, otherwise you will never get noticed.
-
4
Become the star of the team. As Sports America will ask a coach of a nominated player if there are any other standout players on the team, you will struggle to make the All-American team if you are not even the best performer on your team.
-
5
Play at least half of your senior season to be considered for the list.
-
6
Perform both on and off the court for your high school. If you're failing at school, you will not be picked by the selectors.
-
7
Complete high school in four years. Fifth-year players are not eligible to compete in the McDonald's event.
-
8
Take part in summer camps. It is important to play basketball outside of the high school schedule to help you get noticed for the All-American list. It will also show your dedication to the game and your own development.
-
9
Compete in Amateur Athletic Union basketball tournaments to boost your profile.
-
10
Play well and stand out to get yourself in the media. Every major basketball publication is read by Sports America, and the members of the selection committee can put in their own nominations. Getting in the public eye is a great way to get nominated.
