How to Build a Basketball Backboard Hoop

Having your own basketball hoop is a lot of fun and a great asset for the whole family, but building it yourself can be a wonderful family activity you will appreciate and cherish for years to come.

  • Plywood
  • Table saw
  • Sandpaper
  • Screws
  • Drill
  • Black paint
  • Paint brush

Instructions

      Lay the plywood on a table. Using your measuring tape, measure four feet across, and three feet tall. Mark the dimensions with a pencil.

      Cut the plywood with the table saw along the marked lines. Sand the edges till smooth.

      Draw a 12-by-12-inch square in the middle of the backboard. Draw a line two inches in from all four sides of the board.

      Paint the outline of the square using a paint brush and the outside edges of the board to create a trim.

      Drill four holes into the backboard and the place where you are going to hang it. A good spot is above the garage door or a pole. Secure the backboard against the wall or pole using the screws.

      Attach the basketball hoop directly under the square in the middle of the board, using a drill to screw it in place.
