How to Make Your Own Basketball Hoop in the House

Building an indoor basketball hoop is a great way to spend your free time creating some fun indoor activity. Having a hoop inside eliminates problems that occur while playing outdoors such as weather. Depending on how complex you want your hoop to be, this is a very cheap and easy guide to building a quick hoop to play with your friends and family. You can make the height of the hoop at whatever is comfortable for whoever is playing.

Things You'll Need

  • Basketball hoop (available at any sports store)
  • Basketball net
  • Screws
  • Screwdriver (manual or electric)

      Pick the height of your "backboard" whether it's five-feet or 10-feet high, depending on the size and type of room. Make the backboard square using the painter's tape. Most backboard squares are about 16" by 16".

      Place the basketball hoop two inches below your square in the center of the square. Have a friend or family member hold it while you begin screwing the hoop to the wall. Make sure you screw it into the studs in the wall to ensure that the hoop will be both sturdy and safe.

      Take the net you purchased or had lying around and string it through the hoop completing your indoor hoop.
