Basketball Rules in the Central Coast of California
-
Youth Leagues
-
Youth basketball leagues in the central coast of California are for boys and girls under age 14 and who don't play for their school teams. These leagues are independent and have their own rules and guidelines about joining the team, how much they cost and how many players can be on the team. The rules of these youth basketball games are almost identical to all other types of basketball, giving each player five fouls before he fouls out, allowing a three-point shot and forcing everyone to dribble when they move with the ball.
Special Tournament Rules
-
There are certain special tournaments held by basketball leagues along the central coast of California that have specific rules regarding time limits and the speed at which the game is played. For example, in the Golden Gate Summer Shootout League, teams play two 30-minute halves with the clock runningcontinuously, except during the last 30 seconds of the first half and the last two minutes of the second half---unless the game is a blowout, meaning one team has a double-digit lead. Teams will also be given only two time-outs per game. These leagues are meant to prepare players who are going into more-official high school or college basketball seasons a chance to play competitively over the summer.
High School Rules
-
For high school basketball leagues and teams located along California's Central Coast, rules are governed by the California Interscholastic Federation, which manages all high school-level student athletics and the rules of the sports they play. The rules for teams along the Central Coast are no different than for teams anywhere else in the state. There are minor rule changes made every year, ranging from the colors of players' headbands matching their school colors to unsportsmanlike conduct technical fouls being left up to the game's official to decide. All CIF high school basketball seasons are decided by a state championship between Northern and Southern California at the end of March.
