Rules of the Basketball Game, Around the World

"Around the World" is a basketball game that can be played by one or more people to increase shooting ability. While the game has several variations, the main idea remains the same. Players shoot from various spots on the court until they successfully hit a shot in a specific position and the first player to make it through each shooting position on the court (if it is a multi-player game) is the winner.
  1. Positions

    • The one constant in all versions of "Around the World" is the establishment of where shots are taken. While there are variations on how many spots and where, common ones include the two wings, the free throw line and underneath the basket.

    Turns

    • After a sequence has been established for the positions, players take turns attempting to hit a shot. When a player successfully hits a shot, they move on to the next position. The first player to hit a shot from each position is the winner.

    Chance

    • One common variation of "Around the World" lets players call "chance" whenever they miss a shot. If they do, they can immediately take another shot. If they hit the "chance" shot they move on to the next position; if they miss the "chance" shot they have to go back to the first position.
