Different Basketball Crossovers
-
Basic Crossover
-
When the basic crossover is executed properly, it can be extremely effective. This dribble is performed by dribbling the ball with the right hand and quickly crossing the dribble over to the left hand. Also, it is important that players dribble the basketball below the waist to help maintain control throughout the move. Quicker guards can use the basic crossover to take advantage of slower defenders.
Double Crossover
-
The double crossover consists of two crossovers performed one after the other. The first crossover is a slow, small crossover used to mislead the defender. It is followed by a second crossover done at a much more explosive and quicker pace. Players must develop ambidexterity in ball-handling skills to be able to control the basketball throughout the move. The double crossover is most effective when used against defenders who react well to the initial move.
In and Out Crossover
-
The in and out crossover is an advanced crossover dribble. Basketball players must have good ball-handling skills as well as exceptional footwork. This move consists of a half crossover, known as an in and out dribble, followed by a basic crossover. The half crossover is performed when the ball-handler swings the ball in with the dribbling hand as if he was attempting a crossover and then back out. As the player brings the ball back out, he takes a step with the foot on the ball-handling side. When the defender reacts to the step, the ball-handler responds with a quick basic crossover that will leave the defender out of position.
