Coaching Kids Basketball
Stefan emailed me and sent his basketball drill for coaching kids basketball. I’ve included it here for you to try with your team.
From Stefan…
I have a “drill” that I conduct at the end of every single practice and at the end of every single game.
It’s not a “drill” in the traditional sense, yet I consider it one of the most powerful and productive exercises that I, as a coach of 4th and 5th grade boys, can conduct.
In our team huddle at the end of practice or game, after I review the “highlights” of that practice or game, I then give my boys a “do” list, as follows:
*Do behave yourself properly for your parents
*Do well in school
*Do something nice for someone without expecting anything in return
Again, this is done in the team huddle at the very end of every practice and game. I say the same 3 things, and it’s the very last thing I say to my boys before they leave the gym.
Falls under the category of “coach as mentor giving young men some tips on how they can be more successful in life.”
