Youth Basketball Coaching Tip
One of the biggest areas that coaches neglect is getting their players’ perspective on their game. Read below for a great youth basketball coaching tip on this topic.
From Denny…
One of the things I like to do is have an idea exchange with my team at our first practice following each basketball game. Win or lose I want to know their thoughts on what went right and what went wrong….from their perspective.
Each player is encouraged to share his thoughts. I then give them my perspective on what things we did well and what didn’t go so well. I think this makes them feel like they are important and their ideas count.
We are not allowed to criticize any teammate, an opponent or an official. We then discuss our upcoming opponent and what we need to work on to be successful in our next game. It kind of sets the tone for practice….
They feel good about their successes and at the same time know what we, as a team, need to work on. When they hit the floor, we’re ready.
