How to Loosen a Schwinn Helmet

A bicycle helmet needs to be adjusted correctly in order to fully protect your head. Although a helmet should fit snugly and securely on your head before riding, a helmet that is too tight can be uncomfortable. You can loosen and adjust your Schwinn helmet in a few simple steps.

Place your Schwinn helmet on top of your head -- with the narrow end facing forward -- and snap the fastener. Push the helmet down on your head and attempt to slide the helmet around your head. If your helmet is secure and does not slide when moved without hurting your head, no internal adjusting will be necessary.

If the helmet is secure yet uncomfortable loosen the helmet by lengthening the chin straps on each side so they join and snap together just below the chin.

Certain Schwinn helmet models have an adjustable strap system -- rear-fit -- that lays at the back of the head when the helmet is worn correctly. To loosen the rear-fit strap, twist the dial or pull the strap until the rear-fit system is loose while still remaining snug and preventing forward sliding.
