How to Attach Knee Savers

KneeSavers are a product designed to increase the width between bicycle pedals. This is particularly useful for riders whose knees tend to bend inward when cycling, often causing knee pain over an extended period of time. The products are extensions that fit in between the pedal and the crank, allowing the pedals to sit out wider from the frame. The pedals can be used for road bikes as well as stationary bikes, though the thread size is different for each.

Instructions

    • 1

Loosen the crescent wrench and slip it over the nut between the pedal and the crank. Tighten the crescent wrench until it is snug against the nut. Stabilize the crank with one hand or prop it against a solid object.

    • 2

Turn the crescent wrench toward the back of the bike to loosen the nut. Continue loosening and remove the pedal and the nut.

    • 3

Screw the pedal into the KneeSavers adapter, making sure it is the correct adapter for the right or left pedal. Place one crescent wrench on the adapter and one on the pedal. Hold the pedal wrench steady while you crank the adapter wrench to tighten completely.

    • 4

Screw the other end of the KneeSavers adapter into the crank using the crescent wrench to tighten it completely. Crank the wrench toward the front of the bike to tighten.

    • 5

Repeat the entire process for the other pedal, noting that the wrench should be cranked toward the back of the bike on both sides to loosen the pedals and toward the front to tighten.
