How to Use the On Guard OG Series Mini U-Lock With an Additional Security Cable

Whether you use your bike to commute to work, race, or ride simply for recreation, it is extremely important to know how to lock your bike properly. Learn how to lock your bike properly with Onguard's OG Series Mini U-Lock and an additional cable and never again worry whether your bike will still be sitting at the bike rack when you return.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a good place to lock up your bike. Anything solidly bolted to the ground (like a bike rack or phone pole) or a building (like a small gas pipe) will do. Try to avoid locking to things like parking meters and street signs, as a thief simply has to lift your bike over the post to walk away with it. Insert the key into the U-lock and turn it clockwise to release the upper part of the lock. Pull the U-shaped part of the lock away from the base.

    • 2

Uncoil the security cable. Run this cable through the front wheel of the bike, between two of the spokes.

    • 3

Wrap the ends of the cable around part of the frame of your bike at least once, as well as around the object to which you are securing your bike. This will make certain that the wheel is firmly attached to the frame of the bike.

    • 4

Attach the loop at each end of the cable to the U-shaped part of the U-lock to close the loop. Slide the U-lock around the rear wheel and the frame of the bike.

    • 5

Reattach the base of the U-lock by inserting the ends of the U-shaped part into it and turning the key counterclockwise. Give the lock a tug to make sure it is secure.
