What Are Winwood Toe Clips?

Anyone who has spent much time riding a bicycle has probably had the unpleasant experience of having her feet slip off the pedals. If you are pedaling strenuously, your feet slipping off the pedals may even cause you to crash. There are a variety of devices designed to keep your feet securely on the pedals while riding, and Winwood Toe Clips are among the simplest and easiest-to-use of these devices.
  1. Winwood Bicycle Parts

    • Winwood produces a variety of bicycle parts, including handlebars, forks, and various devices designed to keep your feet on the pedals. Winwood also manufactures shoe-straps, toe-clips, and a pedal-clip system called "Decksters."

    Winwood Toe-clips

    • Winwood Toe-Clips are simple, basket-shaped attachments for bike pedals. The shape of Winwood Toe-Clips is roughly the same as the shape of the front portion of a shoe. Once these toe-clips are attached to standard bike pedals, you can insert your foot into the basket with virtually the same motion you would use to put your foot on a standard bike pedal. By cradling the front of your foot, they help insure that your foot remains firmly on the pedal. Your foot is prevented from slipping forward off of the pedals or from lifting off of the pedals unless you slide your foot backwards out of the basket.

    Decksters Clip System

    • "Decksters" are attachments designed to be bolted to existing bike pedals; they are used along with specially fitted cleats that are attached to your shoes or built-in to the bottom of specially designed bicycle shoes. The cleats clip into place merely by stepping down on the pedal, and can be released by twisting your feet.

    Shoe Straps

    • Winwood also manufactures straps that you attach to bike pedals and then slip your feet into the straps. While these straps are the simplest devices for keeping your feet securely on the bike pedals, they require adjustment to your feet, and it can be difficult to pull your feet out of the straps.
