DIY: Velcro Toe Straps
For bicyclists who do not like clipless pedals, using a set of pedals with Velcro toe straps is a good alternative. Velcro toe strap pedals are available in most bicycle shops. However, if you wish to save a little money, consider making your own toe straps to add to your existing platform pedals.

1
Measure the width of your pedals. Wearing your bike shoes, place a foot onto the pedal and take another measurement going from pedal side to pedal side, over the toe-box on your foot.
-
2
Double the length of your toe-pedal measurement. Cut two strands of the Velcro in the doubled-length.
-
3
Thread one end of one strap through the pedal cage. Pull it through so there are equal ends on both sides and let them dangle to the sides. Place the other strap through the other pedal on the other side.
-
4
Place your feet onto the pedals and pull the Velcro straps over the toe-box on your feet. Connect the hook-and-loop fabric to secure your toes to the pedals.
