Removing Straps from Bicycle Pedals
Things You'll Need
- 4 mm Allen wrench
- Phillips screwdriver
- Razor knife
Instructions
-
Single Straps
-
1
Detach the setscrews that connect the strap to the pedal, using a 4 mm Allen wrench. There is one screw on each side. One is at a diagonal, slightly above the pedal inside a small compression bracket that holds the end of the strap. The other one is on the other side, screwed straight into the pedal body. The strap will fall away once both screws are removed.
-
2
Remove the remaining bracket on one side of the pedal using a Phillips screwdriver. There are two screws attaching the bracket to the pedal. Detach the screws, letting the bracket fall away.
-
3
Remove any nuts or parts that may have come loose inside the pedal housing.
Cage Straps
-
4
Remove the two 4mm Allen setscrews in the ends of the strap. If the strap is riveted on, cut the strap with a razor knife and pull it free of the cage if you want to keep just the cage on the pedal.
-
5
Unscrew and remove the four screws connecting the cage to the pedal, using either a 4 mm Allen wrench or a Phillips screwdriver. One screw connects the cage to the pedal on each end of the pedal, and two screws connect the cage to the pedal along its horizontal edge.
-
6
Pull the cage and strap assembly off the pedal.
