How to Install Toe Clips & Straps

Old style pedal clips and straps are good choices for bicycle touring or any pedaling endeavour where you need to exit the pedal quickly. To install toe clips and straps to a pedal you need platform, or flat style pedals, on the bicycle. Use a 5 mm Allen wrench to install the clips.

Instructions

Set the pedal clips and straps next to the pedals. Pick up the two hex screws for each pedal and the screw plate. Dip the ends of each screw into a dab of bicycle grease.

    • 2

Place the clip on the front of the pedal and put the screw plate over the edge of the clip where it connects to the pedal. Push the Allen wrench into the hex head on the screw and push it into the connection plate and then into one of the pedal screw holes.

    • 3

Turn the screw clockwise until tight. Push the next screw onto the end of the Allen wrench and then into the connection plate and hole. Turn clockwise until locked into place. Screw the other pedal's clip on in the same way.

Thread the strap to the thread slots on the upper outside edge of the clip and then down to the side thread slot of the pedal. Leave the straps loose until you push your foot and shoe into the clip and then pull up on the strap to tighten.
