How to Install Toe Clips on a Bike

Installing toe clips on your bicycle will allow you to pull up on the pedals as well as pushing down. This effectively doubles your efficiency on the bike, making it easier to ride longer distances and push harder gears. Installing toe clips on your existing pedals is a relatively straightforward and easy procedure you can do at home with common tools. Save time and money performing the installation at home rather than taking your bike to the local shop.

Locate the reflector on the forward edge of the right-side bicycle pedal on your bike. Pry this reflector off of the pedal using a flathead screwdriver to reveal the toe-clip mounting holes on your pedal.

    • 2

Hold a toe clip up to the mounting holes on the right side pedal. Slide two of the included mounting bolts through the mounting holes on the toe clip and the pedal.

    • 3

Attach two of the included mounting nuts to the mounting bolts from the inside of the pedal. Use an 8mm wrench to hold the mounting nuts in place while tightening the mounting bolts with a phillips screwdriver.

    • 4

Slide one of the included toe straps through the opening on the toe clip. Wrap this strap through the bottom of the pedal, then attach the open end of the strap to the strap lock at the opposite end.

Repeat this procedure to attach the left side toe clip, then go take your bike for a ride.
